So, I've been organizing my kitchen cabinet to cabinet, drawers to pantry, top to bottom. I'd saved these tins from Maxell's instant coffee granules with the hopes to use them for other things. Well, I came across them today and even got to empty a few expired ones from the pantry. I'd been using an emptied formula tin (with that dreadfully heinous slit in the lid) for BoxTops. Well, the inevitable happened: I needed more room. So, I decided to use one of these to replace the large, awkwardly round formula container, which was never even 1/4th of the way full. It's probably a no-brainer but I'll show you how I did it...each only took about 3 minutes! They're perfect for my buttons, crayons, boxtops, needles, safety pins, etc etc etc!
Whatcha need:
*Scrapbook paper
*A glue runner (double sided glue)
*Straight-edge paper cutter
*Scissors
*and an empty instant coffee tin =)
Clean the inside of your tin with a baby wipe or wet paper towel. Don't submerge in water, unless you have plenty of time to let it air dry.
Leave lid off of tin. No need to measure anything, simply take your scrapbook paper's fine edge and hold it to your container, lining to the bottom edge of the tin. Take your finger and press top edge of paper to leave a crease....this marks the top edge which you'll be cutting.
Line up in your paper cutter and cut! You will be needing two, so use this strip to measure your second strip of paper.
Now, place your short paper edge against the side seam of your tin. Wrap it around to the other side seam and cut your paper to that length. Repeat for 2nd paper, being sure your second piece is longer and over-laps the other along both seams.
Using your glue runner, glue 3 strips horizontally on your paper, being sure to catch the edges. Then glue 2 strips vertically, each on either side of your paper. (follow the black and red lines below =)
Starting at the seam of the tin, slowly wrap around tin, pressing while you work.
How cute is that? Now dazzle them up a bit by labeling them or even hot gluing [e.g.buttons] on the front so you know that's what's inside! As for that old formula tin? I found a use for it. Got any lying around? I'll take them if you don't need them =)
